L'objectif de ce mémoire était de reprendre la naissance et l'évolution du mécanisme respiratoire primaire, afin de comprendre le débat actuel sur ce concept crânien très controversé, et plus généralement sur l'ostéopathie crânienne. Nous avons repris différentes expériences qui ont été faites sur ce sujet, validant ou non ce concept. Nous avons également présenté d'autres recherches, proposant des théories nouvelles comme les ondes de Traube-Hering-Mayer. Afin d'avoir une vision nouvelle sur l'ostéopathie crânienne, nous nous sommes entretenus avec deux ostéopathes ayant deux approches très différentes, et notamment du champ crânien. Ce travail est une synthèse des différentes conceptions concernant le crâne, proposant à l'ostéopathe un état des lieux des débats autour du MRP. Cranial osteopathy is a well known subject in the osteopathic field. Its main origin is the work of William Garner Sutherland. The aim of this thesis was to analyze the origins and the evolution of the Primary Respiratory Movement (PRM) in order to understand the current debate on this concept but also on cranial osteopathy, which is very controversial. Our analysis is based on several experimentations led on this subject: some confirm the existence of the Primary Respiratory Movement, others deny it. We also presented studies which introduce new theories such as the Traube-Hering-Mayer's waves. Furthermore, to get a contemporary point of view on cranial osteopathy, we planned interviews with two osteopaths. It brought a very interesting point to our work because they had a very different approach to cranial osteopathy. Our work enabled us to have an overview of the cranial osteopathy concept and of the debates on MRP.
